Terms of Service

1. Agreement to These Terms

By accessing or using TwenteNotes.nl (the “Platform”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree, do not use the Platform.

TwenteNotes.nl is operated by TwenteNotes (“we”, “us”, or “our”), based in the Netherlands. These Terms are governed by Dutch law.

2. What TwenteNotes Is

TwenteNotes is a free platform where University of Twente students can share and access study notes in PDF format. The Platform is intended to support the academic community at the University of Twente. No payment is involved in sharing or accessing notes.

3. Eligibility

To use the full functionality of TwenteNotes, you must:

• Be a current or former student at the University of Twente, or otherwise affiliated with the university.
• Be at least 16 years of age.
• Register with a valid email address.

Certain features — such as downloading notes — are restricted to verified University of Twente students (those who have registered with a @student.utwente.nl email address) and who have themselves contributed at least one note to the Platform.

4. Your Account

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You must notify us immediately at support@twentenotes.nl if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.

You may not create an account on behalf of someone else or use another person's account. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

5. Uploading Content

When you upload notes to TwenteNotes, you confirm that:

• The notes are your own original work, or you have the right to share them.
• The notes do not reproduce substantial portions of copyrighted materials (such as textbooks, journal articles, or official course materials) without authorisation from the rights holder.
• The content does not contain personal data of other individuals without their consent.
• The content is accurate and relevant to the stated course or subject.
• The content does not violate any applicable law or University of Twente policy.

By uploading content, you grant TwenteNotes a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, display, and make your notes available to other eligible users of the Platform. You retain ownership of your content and may delete it at any time from your account.

6. Prohibited Conduct

You may not use the Platform to:

• Upload content that infringes the intellectual property rights of others.
• Upload content that is defamatory, obscene, hateful, or otherwise unlawful.
• Scrape, crawl, or automatically download content in bulk.
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Platform or its infrastructure.
• Use the Platform for any commercial purpose, resale, or redistribution of notes.
• Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation with the University of Twente.
• Share access to your account with others.

7. Academic Integrity

TwenteNotes is intended to support your learning, not to replace it. Using notes from this Platform in a way that violates the University of Twente's academic integrity policy — such as submitting someone else's work as your own — is your sole responsibility. TwenteNotes does not condone academic fraud.

8. Intellectual Property

The TwenteNotes name, logo, and Platform design are owned by TwenteNotes and may not be used without our prior written consent. User-uploaded notes remain the property of their respective authors.

If you believe that content on the Platform infringes your copyright, please contact us at support@twentenotes.nl with a description of the content in question and evidence of your rights. We will review and, where appropriate, remove infringing content.

9. Disclaimers

The Platform and all content on it are provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or usefulness of any notes shared on the Platform. Notes are created by students and have not been verified by TwenteNotes or the University of Twente.

We do not guarantee that the Platform will be available at all times, error-free, or secure.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by Dutch law, TwenteNotes shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Platform, including but not limited to academic consequences, loss of data, or reliance on user-uploaded content.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Platform at any time, with or without notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms. You may also delete your account at any time from your account settings, which will remove your personal data and uploaded content in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Platform after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. For significant changes, we will notify you via email.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Netherlands. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Platform shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts in the Netherlands.
